If it's your first time shopping with us - or your first time buying alcohol anywhere - the ID process can feel like a small unknown. Here's what to expect, in plain terms.
The Minimum Age Is 21, No Exceptions
Across the entire United States, including Georgia, the legal minimum age to purchase alcohol is 21. There's no local exception to this, and it applies no matter how the purchase is being made or who it's for.
Why We Card Everyone, Not Just Younger Shoppers
You might get asked for ID even if you're well past 21 - that's intentional, not a judgment on how old you look. Carding every customer consistently, rather than guessing based on appearance, is simply the fairest and most reliable way to make sure the policy is applied the same way for everyone.
What Counts as Valid ID
In general, a valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID is what you'll need - a driver's license, a state-issued ID card, a passport, or a military ID all typically qualify. The key details we're checking are the photo, the birth date, and that the ID hasn't expired.
What Happens If You Don't Have ID on You
If you can't produce valid ID at the register, we won't be able to complete the sale - even if you're clearly over 21. It's an inconvenience, but it's a firm policy rather than a judgment call, so it's worth grabbing your wallet before you head out if alcohol is on your list.
A Note on Photos and Digital Copies
It's worth knowing that many stores, ours included, prefer to see a physical, valid ID rather than a photo of one on a phone. A photo is simple to alter or fake, which makes it a much less reliable way to verify age at the register.
